<p>Enter Sourcemap, a volunteer-driven project that shares information about where manufacturers source their supplies.</p>
<p>I checked the &#8220;Objects with a high carbon footprints&#8221; under Featured Collections, and found this information about a Nova Scotia cabinet maker.<br />
<a href="http://www.myenergypal.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/SourceMap2.png"><img src="http://www.myenergypal.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/SourceMap2.png" alt="" title="SourceMap2" width="580" height="456" style="float: center; padding: 10px 0px 10px 0px" border="0"></a></p>
<p>When I clicked the link, I saw where all their materials were coming from as shown in the next screenshot.</p>
<p><span id="more-583"></span></p>
<p><a href="http://www.myenergypal.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/SourceMap1.png"><img style="float: center; padding: 10px 0px 10px 0px" border="0" title="SourceMap1" src="http://www.myenergypal.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/SourceMap1.png" alt="" width="564" height="451" /></a></p>
<p>The <a href="http://www.sourcemap.org" target="_blank">SourceMap project</a> is relatively new, but it will be very interesting to see how it grows in scope as more people think twice about how what they buy affects our environment.</p>
<p>Would understanding the supply chain and carbon footprint of a product make you change your buying habits? Let us know in the comments below.</p>
